Investment Funds
Invest through a portfolio with a defined approach
Investment funds offer a way to invest in a collection of assets through one product. A fund’s strategy sets out what it can hold, the outcome it aims to achieve and the risks it may take.
For people approaching retirement and retirees, funds may be considered for money intended to support longer-term needs. LifePlan Investments helps you understand available funds in relation to your income objectives, investment timeframe and ability to bear losses.
Different funds serve different purposes
An equity fund invests mainly in shares and is typically considered in the context of longer-term goals. A bond fund holds debt securities and is exposed to the credit quality of its issuers and movements in interest rates. A multi-asset fund combines asset types within one investment approach.
Some funds make regular income distributions. Others retain income within the fund. The objective should be clear, but neither an income target nor a growth objective promises an outcome.
Understand what you own
We help you work through the information that matters: the underlying assets, investment policy, fund manager, risk information and costs. We also explain the difference between holding a fund directly and accessing funds through a pension or insurance-based product, where the surrounding terms can affect tax, access and charges.
Spreading investments across assets can reduce reliance on a single holding, although diversification does not prevent market losses. A fund’s title alone is not enough to understand its exposure.
Compare charges and access
Fund costs can include management, administration and transaction charges. LifePlan is paid by the relevant provider and charges no separate introduction fee. We explain our remuneration and the product’s charges before you proceed.
Access depends on the product. Funds may have dealing schedules, settlement periods or withdrawal restrictions. In exceptional circumstances, dealing can be suspended. Money needed for near-term spending should be considered separately from longer-term investment decisions.
Start with your goal
Are you planning for later retirement spending or considering investment income alongside your pension? Tell us your priorities and how much flexibility you need. We can explain the options within our service and the next steps.
Fund values and income can fall as well as rise. You may get back less than you invest. Past performance does not reliably indicate future results.
